Innovation at Decathlon
At Decathlon, innovation is at the heart of product design and the challenge of offering new solutions to customers is constant. This goal is part of the philosophy of making sport accessible to all and motivates teams to use new materials & technologies and to imagine new designs. Respect for the environment is at the heart of research, which aims to facilitate participation in more than 80 sports.
The Reveal, award for innovation
To make this momentum concrete, Decathlon has set up “Reveal Innovation”, an annual event aimed at presenting its most significant innovations, some of which have changed and modernised the practices of hundreds of athletes! Over the past year, the “Reveal” format has been redesigned in a more digital form, in order to be accessible to as many people as possible. After a initial long list, 16 products, divided into four categories were, this year, presented during an internal ceremony on 21 October 2021.

In this first category, "Innovative Design", it is the design that is put forward. Regardless of a daring aesthetic the product must serve a real usage. It is where the unique technical aspects flourish and benefit the athlete that will be recognised. In this category thereofre the balance of looks and practicality are rewarded: design at the service of sport!

Via this category, we set off to discover the different paths taken by design teams in terms of the use of technologies. The “Tech Innovation” category, as its name suggests, aims to reward the most daring innovations in terms of the use of materials, specific components, adapted and innovative systems. Well-thought-out products, technically meeting the needs of athletes and offering new practice habits.

environmental impact
At Decathlon the ambition, by 2026, is for 100% of products to feature“eco design”, with less impactful materials and manufactured with less energy-consuming processes. It is because these issues are at the heart of our strategies. design that we have decided to dedicate a Reveal category to it. The “Responsible Innovation” category aims to highlight products with an extended lifespan, inviting a more responsible lifestyle and with a reduced environmental impact more than 20%.
